MEETING  OF  THE  MINDS

ARTISTS AND TIMES SUBJECT TO CHANGE

NEW ORLEANS SUSPECTS
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
It's been said that the musicians of New Orleans are all members of one gigantic band that breaks up into smaller groups on a nightly basis. If this were really the case, The New Orleans Suspects would be in a class all their own. The group is comprised of musicians with experience and versatility that rival any other band the city has ever produced. This conglomeration features prominent members of the Neville Brothers, Radiators, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and James Brown's band.

MAN MAN
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
Man Man is a fearlessly unique band. The group's fifth full length album On Oni Pond features an arresting reconstruction of the group's visionary sound – stripped to its core and rebuilt as something new and compelling yet still very much Man Man. This marked shift is a direct result of an intensive collaboration between the band's frontman, Honus Honus, and drummer Pow Pow, who has assumed a new-found prominence in the songwriting process, bringing an exhilarating array of new rhythmic ideas to the mix. "With this album we got to do something that very few bands or creative people get to do which is a reboot, and one that feels natural," comments Honus Honus.

MIKE DILLON BAND
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA
How many artists can claim being praised a "punk rock provocateur," "jazz vibraphone visionary" and "percussion virtuoso" in the same sentence? There's only one: Mike Dillon. Whether through his affiliation with artists like Les Claypool, Brave Combo and Ani DiFranco, collaborations such as Garage A Trois, The Dead Kenny Gs and Critters Buggin or bands he's fronted, including Billy Goat and Hairy Apes BMX, the Texas-native has set his own standard for 25 years now. With his latest effort, Band of Outsiders—released via Brooklyn label The Royal Potato Family—Mike Dillon has perhaps conjured the perfect storm of all these past endeavors.

DANGERMUFFIN
FOLLY BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA
Dangermuffin embodies a curious paradox. The themes found within their striking new collection, Olly Oxen Free, sum up that juxtaposition. This trio is clearly at peace with themselves and their career, while keeping up a constant pursuit of truth. The seeds they've planted at major festivals around the nation grow as fast as the mileage on their odometer, yet they dream and sing of home with a yearning passion. Most strikingly, the band's musical execution remains refreshingly simple, belying a staggering lyrical and thematic depth behind each individual song.

MORNING TELEPORTATION
BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY
Morning Teleportation is a five-piece psychedelic band based out of Bowling Green, Kentucky. They create a high-energy, tripped-out dance-off and sing-along using energetic instrumentation that includes banjo, talkbox, synthesizer, trumpet, and theremin. Their debut album, Expanding Anyway, was produced by Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, released on Glacial Pace Recordings.

THE FUNK ARK
WASHINGTON, DC
The Funk Ark is back in action. Will Rast and the crew are geared up to deliver another round of soulful and infectious grooves with their upcoming album, set to be released this October via Ropeadope Records. The new record is a powerful collection of tracks that showcases the wide range of sounds and styles the Funk Ark is capable of. Keyboardist, composer, and bandleader Will Rast formed The Funk Ark with some of the best musicians in D.C. to play the music he loves best. The group draws on influences from the African and Latin funk/dance music scenes of the 1960s and 70s, and the result is a gritty and soulful mix of inspired Afrobeat and big band funk.

KNITEBITCH
SHAMOKIN, PENNSYLVANIA
They'll turn your mother into your grandmother.

THE MAGIC BEANS
BOULDER, COLORADO
The Magic Beans are a traveling band set out to bring their unique, genre-blending music to the masses and inspire a good time. Their diverse songs move your mind, while tight grooves move your booty when they come to town or through the speakers. Drawing from a wide range of influences, The Magic Beans leave nothing off the table as they combine americana, funk, rock, and electronica into a one sound and sometimes even one composition. Their sound has been described as space funk, ameritronica, and groove grass. The group uses no pre-recorded tracks or samples in favor of a more traditional approach to music: original songwriting, diverse instrumentation, and continually pushing the envelope are what have set this group apart. Seamlessly combining acoustic roots music and traditional instruments with modern technology and electric dance music, The Magic Beans are as unique as their place of origin, the Colorado Rockies.

LESPECIAL
FALLS VILLAGE, CONNECTICUT
lespecial has been making waves with their tight live sets ridden with raucous improv and sheer variety. Rory D provides the raw, primal, unyielding rhythmic backbone, Luke B throws down the dirty 4-string raunch, thump, and sub-synth, and Jonny G glitches the samples and guitar as well as the deep synth womp. Aggressive dance music to turn heads before the apocalypse.

SWIFT TECHNIQUE
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA
The past year has marked several exciting changes for Philly's fiery funksters, Swift Technique. Most recently, the band has added electric lead vocalist, Chelsea ViaCava. With the addition of Chelsea's vocal prowess, the band has developed a dynamic new element to the Swift Tech sound. With the release of the EP, "you boys be aight", the future continues to look very bright for this Philadelphia Funk Force. The extremely positive chemistry shared by the band has always been translated in the live setting. Swift Technique has now established themselves as an up and coming force in the recording industry. Although the group draws from many world influences, their genre is uniquely Philadelphia.

TIGERMAN WOAH
LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS
We are a communion of the last exhales of our ancestors, seeking divine justice for the countless crimes perpetrated against this earth and us beings by a cabal of murderous thieving bastards. The tiger family calls for the eternal spanking of snitches and the mass renunciation of the ego. We struggle for free beer and a epistemological breakthrough in public consciousness surrounding stardust, creator of the cosmos. Our dreams are in line with the historic mission of the multi-national working class, to be the gravediggers of the murderous cabal of thieving bastards that fill there own pockets with the weight of our blood, sweat, and tears.

OLD SHOE
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
Old Shoe is a five-piece Americana Roots Rock band based out of Chicago, Illinois. Made up of talented songwriters from across the country, hailing from as far away as Alaska, the band's compositions paint a diverse landscape of American life.

THE FOUR LEGGED FAITHFUL
HAVERHILL, MASSACHUSETTS
The Four Legged Faithful are a band made up of 4 ordinary men who all thrive on playing music together. Their aim is not to play traditional folk or bluegrass music, but instead to create beautiful, heart-felt, and genuine music using traditional folk/bluegrass instruments. They create a sound that is honest and reflects the band's many musical influences from nearly all genres. All members sing; creating multiple combinations of 2/3/4-part harmonies. All members write and sing songs about their thoughts, families, and the natural world that surrounds them. For a band without a drummer, The Four Legged Faithful achieve an incredible level of intensity using foot percussion and layered rhythms throughout every measure.

THE MOHO COLLECTIVE
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK
Drawing from disparate styles of music may be hard, but doing it with tastefulness is even harder. Yes, it's true that The Moho Collective combines a jazz trio's sophistication, the songwriting savvy of a classic Brill Building production team, the elbow grease of the Muscle Shoals house band, and an arena-rock outfit's muscles -- the band even possesses an orchestra's penchant for epic gestures and an ethnomusicologist's drive to understand. But what stands out the most about The Moho Collective's music is how seamlessly all these sounds come together. Yes, The Moho Collective has the chops to blast the audience in a flurry of notes, but each of the band's members opts instead to make every note count. In fact, the notes they don't play say as much as the ones they do.

SHANE SPEAL'S
SNAKE OIL BAND

YORK, PENNSYLVANIA
The world's foremost master of the cigar box guitar...that forgotten poverty instrument of American roots music.  Shane Speal delivers a fierce and primal show that mixes various eras of the blues (Delta, Chicago, modern punk blues) along with songs you'd never expect on an instrument cobbled from discarded cigar boxes and 3 strings.

THE SLACKWATER NEWS
LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA
With their second EP "Graveyard Mates" the Slackwater News lets fly another batch of restless songs that walk that thin line between indie-rock and freak-folk; memorable for their melodies, sweet in their harmonies, and cleverly arresting in their lyrics. The group proudly hails from Lancaster, PA, where a healthy modern arts and music community thrive alongside badly lit retail outlets, tourist buffets, and horse-drawn agriculture. This time around the group presents songs about things like international phone calls, sharing house with polite ghosts, the oddly comforting certainty of entropy, and the equally comforting notion of spending that eternity in the ground with someone you love.

STILL HAND STRING BAND
BROOKLYN, PENNSYLVANIA
Still Hand String Band is a 4-piece progressive jamgrass machine, instilling their hand into the future of bluegrass music. Hailing from the coal region of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Still Hand plays a wide variety of original and cover material leaving no genre of music untouched. Their heap of originals, although bluegrass at heart, are influenced by rock, jazz, country, psychedelia, reggae, classical compositions, and other traditional and untraditional styles. Lyrical content ranges from songs about the open road, riding the American railroad drunk in a boxcar, strong whiskey, fast women, and an angry dinosaur named Harold. With all members coming from very different musical backgrounds, none of which being bluegrass, they have found a sound that you cant quite put a name on, other than spazzmatic schizophrenic bluegrass. SHSB has a knack for taking the songs of yesteryear and revitalizing with a modern twist and youthful vigor.

THE HAPPY DOG
HATFIELD, PENNSYLVANIA
The Happy Dog is a sound zoo. Live shows can take on an improvisational spirit that may swing between any of their influences ranging from the Talking Heads to Bob Marley to The Beatles to the Dead. The Philadelphia based band plays in places of beauty be it physical or social throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, and New Jersey. All management, recording, production, and touring is done through a network of friends or in house. No artificial ingredients or preservatives!

THE BACKWOODS EXPERIMENT
CASCADE, PENNSYLVANIA
The name says it all. A bluegrass band born and raised in the backwoods of central Pennsylvania, their sound is a reflection of love for all things natural and real. They come from different walks of life but form a quartet of friendship and musical experimentation. Their philosophy is that there are two types of people in the world, those who love bluegrass and those who don't know it yet.

THE NICK MILLER PROJECT

FEATURING GABE GREEN
